Blog Post No. 2 - Free Theme

                 Mi nombre es Nehita !

In Chile, it`s very common to include an article (la for female, el for male) before a person’s name, especially  for women, and particularly when referring to a friend or relative. After a bit of
research I learned that this is not standard Spanish, and it tends to provoke smirks from Spanish speakers from other countries. It did sound a bit funny in the beginning as in English, we can never say `The Monica is here" or " I am going to meet the Anthony"

The usefulness of double first names was something I never understood. Although confusing at first, I began to value their existence later.  They actually help you to identify one person from another. Maria Fernanda is not the same as Maria Teresa or Maria Ignacia. Having double first Chilean names can actually have its own rewards.

Another baffling moment was when I realized that  most of these names can—and often are—made diminutive by adding an “ita” for women and “ito” for men. I don’t know where these names came from, but almost everybody has a nickname in Chile. Those unfortunate ones whose names cannot take an " ita" or  "ito" need not worry. They still can pick from a list of Cotes, Pachis, Betos, Patos, Pipes and more. As  for me, well, in Rome do as the Romans do...So, please celebrate my Chilean name with me: Nehita.

Alright class,  now it`s your turn to write your blog post on a free theme. You can pick anything related to Identity or World Cultures and write at least two good paragraphs. You must follow the order of paragraph development we learned in class - topic sentence, supporting sentences and a concluding sentence.

Blog Post No. 1- Autobiography

Hello class,

Welcome to our first blog of the semester ! You all know me as Miss Neha Jagwani, but today I want to share a little more about myself with you.

I was born and raised in the city of Mumbai, India where I lived with my family until I was 24 years old. In 2001, I moved to Chile to start a family with my ex husband. My family includes my parents, my elder brother, my elder sister, myself and my younger sister. Although we all live very far from each other, what makes us strong is our unspoken love for each other.

My elementary and high school was called Canossa Convent School that had strict nuns and teachers who taught me the value of discipline. All my schooling was done in English in India. I later earned my Masters in Teaching Degree from Universidad de Tarapaca in Arica, Chile. Additionally, I studied the CELTA from the University of Technology, Sydney, Australia.

In my leisure time, I enjoy traveling, experimenting in the kitchen and taking naps. Oh, and I also love learning new languages. Next week I am going to start a course in Japanese..woot, woot !

My expectations for this year are to help you all successfully reach your language goals. I really look forward to a bright and positive semester with all of you !
